5 Day Training Courses (Land & Marine)

LAND GEOPHYSICAL HSES FUNDAMENTALS COURSE
A Brief Summary
This training course is designed to describe and present the methodologies, processes, procedures and provide the tools necessary to successfully manage a high standard of HSES compliance and performance on geophysical survey crews. The application of robust and practical risk management system in all field activities is a central theme throughout the programme.
A key theme is understanding the importance of HSES and to consciously promote and communicate a shared commitment to continuous improvement within a geophysical environment.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
To competently describe the methodologies, processes, procedures, and tools necessary to successfully manage effective HSES performance on geophysical operations. The course is ‘Hands on’ with practical sessions on incident investigation, causal analysis, hazard identification and risk management.
ABOUT
The Land Geophysical HSES Fundamentals Course is based on industry best practices, to incorporate modern geophysical operations with large fleets of vehicles and personnel operating 24hrs. Along with collective experience and ‘Best Practice’ the training references the following documents; IOGP 292 Competency Management Guidelines for the Geophysical Industry and Operating Management System Framework (IOGP Report 510) and OMS in practice (IOGP Report 511), HSE management – guidelines for working together in a contract environment (IOGP Report 423/32) and IAGC Guidelines.
TRAINING METHOD
This is a classroom training course comprising of a mixture of lectures, studies, case studies and practical exercises. Full participation and involvement is expected from all participants.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND & PREREQUISITES
Personnel for whom management of HSES forms part of their main responsibilities, or anyone who is interested in how HSES is effectively managed and implemented in a land seismic environment. There are no mandatory prerequisites required to attend this course although some knowledge of relevant seismic operations would be advantageous.
COMBINED LAND AND MARINE TECHNICAL COURSE
A Brief Summary
This specialised training course provides a detailed study on onshore seismic exploration theory and techniques, referencing past and present methods to include up to date technology for seismic acquisition, its application and data processing. It is tailored mainly to the diverse operating environments within the Sultanate of Oman, but is generally applicable to most desert and semi-arid areas, to include sand dunes, gravel outcrops and jebels.
A key theme for this course is for delegates to gain a firm understanding of the fundamentals of geophysics applied in the field for the purpose of seismic exploration, along with recent geophysical advancements in technologies currently being applied to enhance data quality, and to satisfy the geophysical aims of the operators involved.
Participants will also learn how projects are executed, how certain QC tools might be used, to evaluate projects and planning and be exposed to terminology that will facilitate multidisciplinary teamwork.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
To be competent, and to possess a detailed overview of the planning and organization of a modernday seismic survey, likely to be 2D / 3D, familiarity of the issues associated with the technical aspects of seismic data acquisition and the use of new technology within Oman’s complex geology.
ABOUT
The basics of seismic theory as it relates to seismic acquisition using today’s technology. A brief description of historic as well as modern seismic systems are presented, as many of these will have been used to acquire the seismic data found in many ‘seismic libraries’. A much fuller description of modern nodal systems is presented, along with their advantages and disadvantages.
The Technical Training_Geophysical Land Exploration in Oman is largely based on industry best practices over many years, to incorporate modern geophysical acquisition methodology.
COURSE CONTENT
Details seismic acquisition methodology past and present. Attention to both 2D / 3D methods, in particular, to the simultaneous (DS3) technique. A detailed review of modern nodal systems, their application from deployment, QC, retrieval, data harvesting and data processing.
TRAINING METHOD
This is a classroom training course comprising of a mixture of lectures, studies, case studies and practical exercises. Full participation and involvement are expected from all participants.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND & PREREQUISITES
Personnel for whom responsibility of the high-level planning and managing a modern seismic project is a requirement. Geophysicists and QC personnel who wish to gain a further understanding of modern geophysical applications.
